Dr. (Davis) Cook has spent the first 15+ years her professional life and career to finding the most effective, culturally responsive ways of helping children and families burdened by both mental illness and substance abuse to overcome their disorders and lead productive lives. Now she works in higher education focusing on program development, accreditation and faculty development. For many years her personal mission statement was: “Reduce mental health disparities in the African American community. This will be achieved by increased culturally relevant education, advocacy, and program development.” After over 10 years in higher education, Dr. Cook’s mission has evolved to be: “Disrupting Higher Education systems by breaking barriers and walking in my authenticity.”
This blog was born of that passion in hopes of improving others lives’. She seeks to empower others by helping them find their voice.
