In February 2024, Dr. Bree E. Cook started her appointment as Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs and Associate Professor of Psychology at Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO). In this role she oversees three colleges, 2 schools, over 75 full-time faculty and 24+ academic programs. In her role as SUNO’s Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Cook also leads several academic support departments such as, eLearning, Student Support Services, the Leonard S. Washington Memorial Library, Office of Institutional Research, and in fall of 2025 the redeveloped Evening & Weekend College.
In previous positions, Dr. Bree E. Cook served as Vice President from May 2018 to January 2024, at Pacific Oaks College (POC). In this role Dr. Cook served as the College’s Chief Academic Officer and Accreditation Liaison Officer (ALO). In addition, in 2022 Dr. Cook became the Interim Dean of the new School of Global Leadership and Management. During her tenure at POC Dr. Cook has served as Associate Dean of the School of Cultural & Family Psychology (SCFP), where she also developed the College’s first full bachelor’s degree program, a Bachelor of Arts in Community Psychology. She has also held a myriad of other positions such as adjunct faculty, Academic Coordinator, Assistant Professor and Clinical Training Coordinator. Dr. Cook recently celebrated her 10-year anniversary at Pacific Oaks College (Nov 2021). Prior to coming into higher education, Dr. Cook spent over 15 years in leadership and management positions in community-based non-profits in Los Angeles County, and worked for the US Department of Justice as a Staff Psychologist at the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
Dr. Cook holds doctorate and master’s degrees in clinical psychology with a concentration in Multicultural & Community Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University. She earned her baccalaureate degree from University of California San Diego. She is also a Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE) through the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR).
Dr. Cook is a lifelong learner and researcher. Her most recent endeavors in professional development are completion of Harvard’s Graduate School of Education-Institutes for Higher Education’s world-class “Institute of Educational Management” (IEM) in 2019. In addition, in 2018 she was a participant in WASC Senior College & University Commission’s (WSCUC) Assessment Leadership Academy (ALA). Dr. Cook has presented over 50 papers, seminars, and workshops at professional conferences such as, WASC Academic Resource Conference, Race, Ethnicity and Place Conference, National Association of African American Studies & Affiliates International Conference. She is a member of the Society for Community Research and Action (Division 27 of the American Psychological Association), and the National Council of Family Relations.
While now living in Louisiana, Dr. Cook is a California native. She is a wife and mother of a son and three daughters ranging in age from 18 to 26. Dr. Cook spends her free time camping, cruising, and traveling with her family. She also serves on the Board of Directors at Hillsides, a Pasadena non-profit dedicated to healing children and families.
